Are you concerned about climate change? Join us for our monthly gatherings where we connect with politicians and learn about effective climate solutions from experts.
Our August session focuses on data centres and AI. With AI rapidly changing our world, understanding the environmental impact of the infrastructure supporting it is crucial. Leading academics Dr. Seyedmahmoudian (Swinburne University of Technology) and Dr. Hosseini (University of Melbourne) will explore the unseen consequences of AI, including increased electricity and water consumption and pressure on local resources.
What to Expect:
For Newcomers:
- 1:00 PM: Mingle and snack
- 1:15 PM: Onboarding session:
- Effective strategies for contacting politicians
- Climate policy pop quiz
- Writing an impactful email to your MP
- 1:45 PM: Community updates
- 2:00 PM: Guest speaker panel discussing data centres and AI
- 3:00 PM: Email your MPs on pressing climate issues, such as the Federal inquiry on data centres. Writing resources will be provided. (Don’t forget your laptop!)
- 4:00 PM: Wrap-up
Who Should Attend?
Everyone referred by another attendee is welcome, whether you’re starting your climate journey or are a seasoned advocate. In fact, 2 in 3 attendees have never contacted a politician before!

Climate Writers is a grassroots community empowering Australians to advocate for environmental issues and their local communities. What began as small living room gatherings has grown to over 400 members, resulting in 800+ personalized letters to politicians, meetings with MPs, and contributions to policy papers presented to the NSW Minister. Our mission is to elevate climate conversations to a level that cannot be ignored.
