Don't Sell Grandma's House - exhibition opening

We’re excited to announce Don't Sell Grandma's House, an immersive exhibition presented by W.A.S.+.

W.A.S. (Whaffle, Andre, and Sola) is a collective dedicated to preserving Black history and culture through art, photography, design, installation, and archival practice. W.A.S.+ expands that mission through collaborations with artists, collectors, and cultural partners.

Don't Sell Grandma's House explores Black interior design, media, culture, and memory through the recreation of a 1960s–1970s basement. More than a nostalgic recreation, the installation examines how Black homes became spaces of identity, creativity, connection, and community. It also reflects on the importance of preserving these environments, along with the stories, objects, and memories they hold.

The exhibition features a selection of archival objects from the collection of StorageBased, further deepening the historical narratives that underpin the exhibition.

Join us for the opening reception on Sunday, August 16 from 7–9 PM at Gallery Sinclair. On view until September 6, we will host artist talks, lectures, community archiving sessions, photoshoots, and more. Programming details will be announced soon.
