📣 FAR.Labs and Ai Salon unite to launch an engaging series of events centered on insightful conversations about AI safety and related themes. This pilot series features three compelling topics:

1. AI Risk Narratives & Public Outreach
2. AI Policy & Institutional Reform
3. AI & Collective Well-being

📌 Topic Overview
In the realm of AI safety, funding is predominantly directed toward technical alignment research and catastrophic risk mitigation. This salon will delve into how these funding trends influence work on algorithmic accountability and addressing immediate harms. We'll analyze the political economy of AI safety, examining how funding priorities affect perspectives on harm and agency. Key points of examination include:

• How do funding priorities shape conceptions of harm?
• Do financial contributions from longtermist/Effective Altruism (EA) groups, governmental bodies, or partnerships with industry favor specific research agendas? If so, to what extent?
• Which organizations are reaping the benefits of current funding allocations in AI safety, and which are being overlooked?
• Are there ways to broaden the range of AI safety initiatives being supported? How can we diversify AI safety funding?

🗓️ Logistics
⏱️ Arrive early to enjoy dinner and network! Dinner will be provided by FAR.Labs at 5:45 PM, followed by the salon discussion from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM. Optional networking will commence from 8:00 PM - 8:30 PM.
📍 The salon will take place in the 2nd Floor Seminar room, right across from the kitchen.
🚨 To ensure a smooth and cohesive discussion, please aim to arrive by 6:30 PM, as that’s when the conversation will start.
