What is Gæmz?

Gæmz is a community for those interested in art, experimental games, playful media, and d0peshit, founded in 2019 by Nomi. Our mission is to create a safe and friendly environment that enhances the art world by supporting artists and their work.

Gæmz CPH is a new spinoff in Copenhagen, organized by Horațiu Roman from complicatednonsense.com. The goal is to connect, inspire, and support each other while sharing updates about the local scene.

This meetup is intended to be a monthly event, occurring every third Thursday of the month, at least through the end of 2026.

We maintain a Discord server to connect with other Gæmz locations in Tokyo, London, Berlin, Taipei, and beyond, along with various social media channels. You can find the Discord and all social links here.

Program

We'll kick off by introducing ourselves and discussing our current projects, followed by a casual hangout to get to know one another. This event will take place at the wonderful NEXT school of media, possibly with some students joining us!

Feel free to bring along prototypes, minigames, art materials, or links you'd like to share. There will be signs at the main entrance directing you to the room, and a projector/screen will be available for presentations.

Why is it called Gæmz?

We’re called Gæmz, pronounced ‘games’, as a nod to Nomi's original intention to say “I started this games meet-up called gæmz meetup” in conversations. While we’ve dropped ‘meetup’ from the name, we emphasize our community aspect.

The character Æ/æ, known as ash or æsh in English, represents the Latin diphthong ae, making gaemz an alternative spelling of gæmz.

Statement on AI

Gæmz welcomes everyone but stands against the unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI, which we consider unethical. If you share our view, you can sign this protest letter on AI Training.

Safer Space Policy & Code of Conduct

Gæmz is committed to providing a harassment-free social experience for everyone, regardless of gender, identity, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, body size, race, age, religion, or artistic preferences. We aim to create a space akin to a dimly-lit film theatre, where emotional expression is understood and accepted. Let’s keep this space safe and welcoming for all!
