The Princess’s Romance / Roy William Neill / USA, 1925 / 48 min. / 35 mm – One of a significant number of Hollywood films that have not survived anywhere in the world—except at the National Film Archive in Prague. The archive restored the film to color at the beginning of this century and presented it to audiences for the first time at Ponrepa in January 2017. This second film adaptation of Victor Bridges’ novel Lady from Longacre tells the story of a princess who must marry a nobleman she does not love in order to save her kingdom. A little defiance on her part and fate will take care of the rest…

The Tempest / Irving Cummings / USA, 1926 / 58 min. / 35 mm / CZT – Janet Gaynor belonged to the same generation as Dolores Costello, but she had to carve her path to fame through a long series of bit parts. The year 1926 marked a major turning point for her; it was the year this film (again in tinted color) was made, and during which she also managed to shoot two films with John Ford. A year later, her career would culminate in Friedrich W. Murnau’s brilliant Sunrise. Among the highlights of the drama about a burst dam, The Storm, is the participation of several talented young extras whose names were unknown in 1926, yet ten years later the whole world would know them: Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Carole Lombard

Screenings feature live musical accompaniment.
