Heritage Week in Athlone 2026

Join us for Connaught Street Heritage Week 2026, a full week of events celebrating the history, stories, music, sport, skills and community spirit of the west side of Athlone.This year’s theme is Heritage at Risk, and we’ll be shining a light on the old skills, local stories, traditions, streets and community spaces that deserve to be remembered and protected.Highlights include our Over 40s 5-a-side Football Tournament in The Hollow, with the final on Saturday 22nd August. Walsh’s are the current plaque holders… so let’s see who takes it home this year! ⚽Our Living Heritage Day takes place on Sunday 23rd August in Connaught Gardens, with a parade from the Dean Crowe Theatre, music from the Army Band and Pipe Band, traditional craft demonstrations, guided historical walk, talks, street theatre, treasure hunt, face painting, sensory tent, Oldtown Alpacas, fire engine, local stalls, food and family fun.There’ll also be live music on the street and in the pubs, with trad sessions over the weekend after the markets.Come along, support local, celebrate heritage and enjoy a full week of community events in old Athlone!
