🌍 Join Us for an Inspiring Workshop!
Dive into the rich history of lament traditions from Ukraine, Lithuania, and Karelia. This engaging workshop will shed light on the cultural significance and sacred nature of laments, along with the challenges faced in modern revival efforts.
🎤 What to Expect:
- Learn about the melodies and vocal techniques, including expressive crying.
- Discover the poetic imagery in lament texts.
- Experience live demonstrations featuring laments from various social contexts, with songs sung from archival sources.
- Get creative and write your own laments, with the option to share them in a supportive environment!
✨ Meet Your Facilitators:
- Matti Palonen: A dedicated researcher of lament traditions since 2017, he gained knowledge during a Karelian singing course.
- Jurgita Žvinklytė: Engaged in these traditions since attending a lament workshop in 2022. Together, they participated in the International Conference of Lament Traditions in Helsinki and have collaborated with Ukrainian colleagues to deepen their understanding of traditional healing practices.
