Karl Popper Discussion Group #2
Join us for our second Karl Popper discussion meetup!
This is an informal discussion group where we will engage in a stimulating conversation loosely based around a recommended (but not mandatory) reading.
📖 This week's reading: Karl Popper's "What is Dialectic?"
In this reading, Popper challenges the notion that thought develops through a thesis → antithesis → synthesis pattern (often linked to Hegel and later Marx). He argues that this is really just a specific case of trial and error, advocating for the idea that viewing contradictions as fruitful rather than fixable can lead to dangerous dogmatism.
🕒 Format (about 2 hours):
- Welcome & Framing (10 min): Host provides a brief recap of the recommended material.
- Small Group Rounds (~15 min each): Three rounds with groups of 3, reshuffling each time so everyone has the chance to connect with different participants. A shared list of discussion questions will be available as a guide.
- Open Floor (remainder of the night): Mingle and freely discuss with anyone!
🥙 Vegan mezze spread and pita bread will be provided!
