Margaret Pan plays the Lurie Carillon

Join us at Lurie Tower for a delightful performance by Dr. Margaret Pan, a talented freelance carillonist from Boston! 🕊️

🌍 Margaret has graced stages worldwide, featuring at festivals across Europe and North America, and participating in congresses of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America and the World Carillon Federation. Notably, she was the winner of the 2017 international carillon competition in Springfield, Illinois, and secured third place in the 2019 Queen Fabiola competition in Mechelen, Belgium.

🎓 Having taught at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Toronto, Margaret has also conducted masterclasses at Yale University. An experienced educator, she has served on the GCNA Examination Committee for over a decade. Margaret began her carillon journey in 2007 at Princeton University, graduated from the Royal Carillon School in Belgium in 2012, and completed a fellowship at Bok Tower Gardens in 2015.

In addition to her musical endeavors, she has academic degrees in physics and astrophysics and works as an astronomer at the Smithsonian Institution, focusing on planetary dynamics. 🌌

Concert Information

These summer carillon concerts are free and open to all, including families and pets! Feel free to bring your own lawn chairs or blankets, and even a picnic! 🎉

The music will go on, rain or shine. Upon arrival, grab a program near the tower and find a spot outdoors. For optimal acoustics, sit where you can see the bells directly. Staff members will be on hand to assist with questions or direct you to restrooms and facilities.

Parking

Pay for metered visitor parking behind the Walgreen Drama Center. You can also find free street parking along Bonisteel Blvd after hours, as well as additional free parking options at:

• E.V. Moore Building (lot NC10)
• North Campus Recreation Building (lot NC44)
• Art & Architecture Building (lot NC43) (all free after 6 p.m.).
