Mezipatra: The anti-gender movement—no longer inconspicuous in the Czech Republic

They claim to be the defenders of the traditional family, the ones sounding the alarm against the so-called “gender ideology.”. As part of their agenda, they advocate for banning sex education and restricting the rights of LGBTQ+ people, oppose measures to protect women from violence, and seek to ban abortion. The anti-gender movement is gaining power in Europe and the Czech Republic, and its members often succeed in finding ways to influence public policies. How long have these movements been active in Czechia, and what steps are they taking? What is their vision for the country in the coming years? The discussion will feature Prokop Vodrážka, a journalist and reporter covering social and political topics in Deník N, and social scientist Eva Svatoňová, who works at the Department of Social Work at the University of Ostrava and has been studying the anti-gender movement for several years.
