Our Big Fat Greek Café Tour
Step into the nostalgic world of Greek-Australian cafés, where the aroma of frying chips and freshly ground coffee fills the air! Experience the heart of the town, a place that nourished regional Australia for nearly a century. These cafés, with their family-owned charm and rich histories, created a community vibe, one steak and chips at a time.
Join the Greco Retro Jazz band Girl From Greece for an enchanting 75-minute live music show filled with the beloved soundtrack of these cafés. Enjoy Greek classics, jazz standards, and timeless favorites, all interwoven with evocative stories from a bygone era.
Mel Lathouras, hailing from Bundaberg, returns to share her family's history of running two cafés on Bourbong Street since 1920. Alongside her is Katerini Manolatos, whose family operated Feros & Feros in Byron Bay around the same period. Together, they bring the warm, vibrant tales of Greek café life to the stage, accompanied by a stellar six-piece band featuring Australia's top musicians, with the bouzouki taking center stage.
Dive into a concert experience that captures the essence of café culture—complete with laughter, stories, and the daily hustle of café life. It’s part concert, part shared history, and entirely heartfelt.
Fresh off a sold-out performance at Brisbane's Thomas Dixon Centre, this show was a highlight of the 50th anniversary of the Paniyiri Greek Festival.
