From "Dear You" to Multi- and Trans-Culturalism in Southesst Asian Ink Painting
Taking the solo exhibition Ink Becoming of Fujian artist Chen Hanqing, as a starting point, this forum explores how modern and contemporary ink art is reinterpreted within the cultural landscape of Southeast Asia.
As ink painting moves across regions and cultures, how do tradition, local identity, and cross-cultural exchange shape its evolving language?
The discussion brings together Kwok Kian Chow, Founding Director of the Singapore Art Museum and art historian; Dr. Cui Yi, scholar of Southeast Asian art and modern ink art; and Audrey Zhang, Director of Prestige Gallery, to examine the relationship between tradition and innovation, locality and mobility, and the future of ink art in Southeast Asia.
Speakers
Kwok Kian Chow | Art Historian, Writer, Curator, Founding Director of Singapore Art Museum
Dr. Cui Yi | Art Historian and University Lecturer; PhD, Universiti Sains Malaysia
Audrey Zhang | Director, Prestige Gallery (Moderator)
We warmly welcome artists, collectors, researchers, and the public to join this conversation on the evolving role of ink art in Southeast Asia.
