RSVP: Experience Kintsugi: An Intro to the World of Pottery Repair
What to Expect
✨ Dive into the history and philosophy of kintsugi.
✨ Engage in hands-on experience with traditional materials and natural urushi lacquer.
✨ Finish off one prepared ceramic piece with a stunning metallic touch to take home!
✨ Bond broken pieces, either on a provided sample or on a personal piece.
✨ Enjoy a tranquil, small-group setting for a personalized experience.
Important Safety Note:
⛑️ This workshop uses urushi lacquer, derived from the lacquer tree's natural sap. While working with it, note that uncured urushi may contain urushiol, the same allergen found in poison ivy, which can lead to skin irritation.
- Gloves will be provided, and you'll receive thorough safety instructions.
- If you come into contact with urushi, please massage the affected area with plant-based oil and wash your hands with soap and water.
This workshop is not recommended for individuals with severe urushiol allergies.
Age Requirement
💼 Participants must be 16 years and older.
What to Wear
👕 Dress in clothing you won’t mind getting dirty.
What to Bring
🛠️ All materials will be provided!
- Optional: Bring your own broken ceramic piece (glossy glazed, palm-sized, up to 5 fragments) to mend.
Note: Only the first bonding step can be completed during this session.
