🌟 Co-Hosts Include:

  • Katie Chin: Celebrity chef, author, and playwright of Holy Shiitake! A Wok Star is Born.
  • Ariel Estrada: Actor, singer, arts advocate, producer, and founder of Leviathan Lab.
  • Dorothea Gloria: Filipina theater-maker and founder of RiffRaff NYC.
  • Nina Zoie Lam: Actor, theater director, and founding partner of the National Asian Artists Project.
  • Facilitated by: Bob Ost, Executive Director of TRU.

⚖️ This panel will delve into important topics surrounding diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within the theater community. We will discuss the ongoing issues regarding cultural specificity in casting and the representation of AANHPI communities. Despite the strides made by Asian-focused companies like Pan Asian Rep and the National Asian American Theater, why is AANHPI representation still lacking?

🤔 Questions to be explored include:

  • Which Asian communities are represented, and which are overlooked?
  • How can we differentiate between tokenism and true, sustained inclusion?
  • What does allyship and institutional accountability look like in practice?

👥 Attendees are encouraged to actively engage in this meaningful conversation. Networking begins at 6:30 PM with roundtable introductions. Bring your best 20-second summary of who you are and what you seek!

💰 Attendance is free for TRU members and League of Professional Theatre Women. A ticket is $15 for non-members, with a special $5 "starving artist" ticket available for those in need. Please make your reservations via the bright red box on our webpage, or contact us directly through email at TRUStaff1@gmail.com or by phone at least a day in advance.
