Under One Sun: An Eclipse Gathering at MAAT
Join us on the rooftop of MAAT as we pause, turn toward the sky, and share an ancient human experience.
Note: After the eclipse, we will walk in the golden light of the sunset along the Tejo river, until the Torre de Belem and possibly The Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown.
Note: If you arrive late because of work, you can still join us... We will receive you when you arrive :-)
For millions of years, human beings have gathered in quiet awe to witness the rare moment when the moon passes before the sun. In our fast-paced modern world, it is easy to forget that everything we are—and everything we build—is sustained by the warmth and energy of the sun.
An eclipse is a profound pause button. It is a striking reminder of our shared, humble place within the vast cosmic order, and of how much we need one another.
We are coming together on the banks of the Tagus not just to look up, but to attune both inward and outward to the profound reverberation that the disappearance of the light in full day creates within us and around us.
What to Expect:
- Attunement & Presence: Beyond watching the solar disk itself, we will hold space to notice the subtle shift in light, the change in temperature, the quiet in the air (relative to being in the middle of a capital city!), and the internal emotional reverberations of the moment.
- Community & Connection: A warm, open atmosphere to sit side-by-side, sharing a collective silence and a collective presence as the shadow moves across us.
- Reflective Pause and Walk along the River: A brief moment after the peak to acknowledge our shared humanity, ground ourselves, and appreciate the living star that powers our world. We will walk in the sunset light along the river until Torre de Belem and back.
Bring a cushion or blanket to sit on, comfortable clothing, and an open heart.
