Wholly Unwinding - our 2026 main stage production

We all have scars, both visible and hidden. Each scar narrates a story of experiences that shape who we are. In Wholly Unwinding, creator Hailey McAvoy explores her journey of healing and acceptance in the face of cerebral palsy, inviting us to honor our own scars through the power of story and song.

🎤 This world premiere, commissioned by Hogfish and directed by co-founder Edwin Cahill, showcases an exciting blend of artistic influences including Joni Mitchell, The Jackson Five, Hildegard von Bingen, and The Chicks. As a unique fusion of musical and folk concert elements, the performance promises to be a moving pilgrimage filled with tales from a life rich in complexity.

🎶 The experience opens with an art gallery featuring works from the local disability community, curated by Double House Arts Collective, and hands-on Alexander Technique somatic work that played a pivotal role in Hailey's healing. Travel through a sculpture portal crafted by Charles Mary Kubricht using the casts and medical devices from Hailey's childhood to enter this immersive space.

🙌 With continued guidance from Matt Cahill, an Alexander Technique teacher, the audience is invited to engage throughout the performance. As the show culminates in a joyous inclusive dance party led by Holly Taylor using the Danceability method, barriers between cast and audience dissolve, allowing everyone, regardless of ability, to celebrate together.

✨ The Saturday matinee will host a sensory-friendly performance with ASL interpretation, audio descriptions, captions, and a quiet area to ensure accessibility for all. Hogfish is dedicated to providing supportive experiences for every audience member.
