Workshop Series: Forest to Fiber - Papermaking from Invasive Trees

Join Trees Atlanta, the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking, and fiber ethnobotanist James Ojascastro for an engaging hands-on experience where you can create your own paper from the invasive paper mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera).

Learn about the significance of removing invasive species like the mulberry tree from Atlanta’s urban forest, supporting the thriving of native plants and wildlife. This workshop is part of a two-part series, with an optional bonus session aimed at harvesting fiber from these trees! 🌲✂️

What's in Store?

• Bonus Field Session (May 16th, 9 AM - 12 PM): Harvesting mulberry trees at Connally Family Cemetery (2363 Manor Ave., East Point, GA). Help restore this historical site while learning!
• Session 1 (May 30, 9 AM - 1 PM): Fiber Prep - Prepare and process your harvested fiber to turn it into paper. All skill levels are welcome, and all materials will be provided!
• Session 2 (June 6, 10 AM - 4 PM): Paper Creation - Make your own paper! Again, all skill levels are welcome, and you'll receive all necessary materials. Note that the paper needs time to dry post-workshop and will be available for pick-up/shipping afterward.
