Afro-Asian Folk Art: Batik and Indigo

Afro-Asian Folk Art: Batik and Indigo

Om arrangementet

Taught by Marshall, come learn about Afro-Asian intimacies and cultural exchanges in folk art, by discussing batik and indigo dyeing, two forms of fiber art that have both distinct and overlapping stories in the folk art histories of the African and Asian Diasporas.

Together, we will use Black-farmed cotton from Black-owned farms, Japanese indigo dye, and Indonesian batik pens to create a community cloth, and you will all get to take home fabric from the community cloth to use by itself as a bandana or to use in your ongoing projects!
