Black is a powerful and evocative dance performance that confronts the violence and struggles defining black lives in today's society. Through poignant references to Black Lives Matter and the tragic murder of George Floyd, choreographer Oulouy invites us to reflect on the positioning of the black body within the Western world. This compelling piece examines the myriad ways the black body is perceived, defined, and challenged, revealing the stereotypes, desires, and fears that pervade these narratives.

This unique expression combines various street-dance styles from the African continent and the African diaspora, such as Coupé-décalé, Ndomboló, Afrohouse, and krump. The result is not only a visual manifesto that incorporates trauma and pride but also a profound statement of political will. Black serves as a protest and celebration, honoring movement, resilience, and the powerful act of refusing to conform. 🌍💪
