📚 About the Book
“A poignant portrait of a woman stepping into her power in middle age.” — Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review
“[An] openhearted memoir... Funny, heartbreaking, and inspirational, it’s an invigorating account that will resonate with readers of all ages seeking to refresh their lives.” — Publishers Weekly
Midstream is a memoir about diving head-first into a new life, reclaiming forgotten joys, and rediscovering oneself after divorce. It serves as a fresh perspective on midlife for women who feel they have lost themselves in the service of others.
As Kate approached her 50th birthday, she contemplated ending a 23-year marriage where she had become consumed with serving others, losing sight of her own identity. To reclaim herself, she initiated the 50 Dunks Project — a quest to visit 50 different bodies of water, capturing each experience through photos and posts.
Traveling from California to Southern France, Kate’s journey includes swimming in captivating spots like the American River, Lake Tenaya, and secret swimming holes. Through her humor, vivid descriptions, and critical reflections, she sheds light on the societal pressures that often lead women to forget themselves and advocates for embracing joy as a vital act of resistance.
