Can we use social media to combat hate? 🤔 How might we redesign digital spaces to minimize misogyny and its associated harms?

Beyond the Algorithm pilots theatre-based critical empathy training with young people through an adapted version of Forum Theatre, an interactive style where audience members can intervene in the script to alter the narrative.

This engaging play examines the motivations behind online misogyny and explores strategies to disrupt the spread of hate and deliver support to victims/survivors. Join us for a session that serves as an investigation, intervention, and opportunity to gather insights on how young individuals believe the issues can be tackled.

Developed in collaboration with actors from Canberra Youth Theatre through preparatory workshops, this event is aimed at students, community members, educators, and researchers.

Beyond the Algorithm is part of Wellspring: Inquiry and Exchange, a partnership between The Street Theatre and the ANU School of Literature, Languages, and Linguistics. This exciting series brings together immersive events that delve into the richness of cultural inquiry and exchange, inviting Canberra’s curious minds to experience the unending source of human creativity and communication.
