Bossaphonik presents Sounds of Highlife feat Sacred Funk 4tet

We’re thrilled to present Sounds of Highlife featuring Sacred Funk 4tet, a vibrant celebration of the highlife music genre that originated in Ghana during the 1920s and flourished throughout West Africa. 🌍 This genre, characterized by its rich blend of local percussion and western brass instrumentation, has evolved over the decades, encompassing various styles such as palm wine highlife, Igbo highlife, and Afro-soul.

For this special night, the Sacred Funk 4tet will perform as a 7-piece band, featuring talented musicians like double Grammy-winning percussionist Lekan Babalola, renowned clarinetist Kate Luxmore, and Venezuelan conguero Williams Cumberbache. 🎺 The band will take us on a journey, showcasing the late highlife-jazz and Afro-soul tunes from the 1960s, along with the revolutionary sounds of Fela Kuti and the inspiring works of Ebo Taylor and Rex Lawson.
