Join us for an informative workshop dedicated to WORMS! Dive into the fascinating world of these essential organisms, from the invasive jumping worms to the beneficial red wrigglers that enhance our garden soil.

Guest Facilitators:

Sullivan Dyment
A Toronto-based researcher, writer, visual artist, and environmental advocate specializing in urban resiliency and soil stewardship. Currently completing a Master of Environmental Studies at York University, Sullivan focuses on invasive species management and community-led conservation. He is an advocate for pollinators and maintains his own gardens at home.

The Subterranean Shift and Jumping Worms

Learn about the jumping worm crisis impacting Ontario's ecosystems. Sullivan will illustrate their arrival and what makes them biological combatants that threaten healthy soil. He will empower you to understand containment as a behavior challenge, transitioning from feeling powerless to becoming active defenders of our ecosystems.

Joe Durand
An urban agriculture advocate, educator, and founding member of Green Thumbs Growing Kids. Joe specializes in setting up compost systems and collaborating with local community initiatives.

Red Wrigglers, Soil Health, and Gardens

Joe will explain the critical role of red wrigglers in composting and soil microbiology. Using microscopes, participants will examine the compost from the Milky Way Garden and explore topics such as compost tea, commercial fertilizers, and the importance of soil health in our ecosystem.
