He will discuss the origins of mindfulness, touch on stress physiology, and explore how mindfulness practices can help us engage in our relationship to experience, reducing stress and enhancing well-being. Simple practices of breathing and mindful movement will support our discussion as we explore mindfulness from the inside out.Curious about how to bring mindfulness into your life? Start here! Expect a one-hour interactive presentation introducing you to the principles of mindfulness and teaching some basic practices. You’ll leave with a handout and a tool kit of simple practices to use at work and home.This participatory, practical introductory class includes:Definitions of mindfulness A helpful handout summarizing the benefits and applications of mindfulness in everyday lifeGuided body and breath awareness practices Group dialogue and small group discussion* Suggestions on resources for ongoing practice and how to apply mindfulness at work and homeBased on the 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. MBSR has been shown to reduce chronic pain and boost the immune system; address painful mental states like depression and anxiety; minimize emotional reactivity and promote well-being; increase flexible attention and sharpen mental focus.Mindfulness Northwest was founded by Tim Burnett in 2011 as a way to offer the benefits of mindfulness meditation and practices to the greater Pacific Northwest and is now offering courses and staff trainings at sites from Seattle to Bellingham. Tim has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) since 2010, and practicing meditation since 1986. He is certified to teach MBSR by the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School; certified to teach Mindful Self-Compassion by the Center for Mindful Self Compassion; and certified to teach Compassion Cultivation Training by the Center for the Compassion and Altruism Research and Education at Stanford University.
