Serbian-born, New York City-based violinist Marija Kovačević works across classical, experimental, and improvised music. Her project “Music for Broken Violins” explores sonic textures using broken violins, bows, and their fragments. Marija has developed a unique vocabulary that includes dragging strings, playing cracks, bowing broken bodies, wrapping loose hair, and creaking pegs.
In performance, she employs a minimalist, ritualistic structure, approaching each instrument in procession with silence between each visceral deviation from accepted technical norms.

  Marija’s fifth solo album is set for release this year on Relative Pitch Records. The project has traveled internationally to the UK, Europe, and the USA.

Henrik Olsson and Ola Rubin are well-known Swedish improvisers active in the experimental/improv scene across Europe. Based in Copenhagen/Malmö, they are involved in several projects that frequently appear on the international stage. In this duo, they engage in a vibrant improvised musical dialogue filled with energy and expressivity. They explore unheard sounds, rhythms, and abstract sonic shapes, often rapidly shifting between them. Curiosity is at the core of their identity, and their interplay is highly reactive and dynamic, utilizing extended techniques developed on their respective instruments.
