GOODNIGHT DESDEMONA (GOOD MORNING JULIET) at New Prospect Theatre
Kestral Productions is thrilled to present GOODNIGHT DESDEMONA (GOOD MORNING JULIET) by Ann-Marie MacDonald, directed by Madeleine Ingridsdotter, and co-produced by David Huss & Lorraine Wilde.
This production pays tribute to Canadian author, actor, and playwright Ann-Marie MacDonald, a beloved figure for director Madeleine Ingridsdotter, who found her passion for Shakespeare playing Marc Antony in the all-woman version of JULIUS CAESAR.
Plot Summary: In this exuberant comedy and feminist reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Othello and Romeo and Juliet, we follow Constance Ledbelly, a beleaguered “spinster” academic on a quest for Shakespearean origins and her own identity. After discovering an ancient manuscript, Constance is whisked away into the tumultuous realms of both tragedies. Her adventures, aimed at saving Desdemona and Juliet from their tragic ends, lead to a comedic and transformative journey filled with love, sword-fighting, Renaissance dancing, and a series of disguises.
This vibrant, gender-bending romp explores themes of irony, innocence, and the complexities of identity with a clever and poignant touch.
