Grant McLachlan: a 70th [birthday] celebration

Join us at the South African College of Music, UCT, as we honor the 70th birthday of the renowned composer Grant McLachlan with an enchanting concert that showcases the diverse nature of his work from several decades.

The event features performances by former and current staff, students, and guests. Highlights include:

• 🎻 Premiere of a new cello and piano piece crafted for and performed by his daughter, Nicola McLachlan, a UCT alumna now residing in Germany.
• 🎨 A chamber piece set to an animated film of a painting by Robert Slingsby.
• 🎶 A recent string ensemble work first unveiled at London’s Wigmore Hall.
• 🎼 A hint of Bach.

Grant McLachlan, a composition lecturer at UCT, is celebrated for his extensive work on soundtracks for natural history films and his captivating lecture-recitals at the UCT Summer School. He’s best known for the widely performed Christmas carol, 'Come, Colours Rise.'
