The Freaky Buds have their roots deeply embedded in classic electric blues, from R. L. Burnside to Magic Sam, blended with more modern and decidedly rock-oriented music from bands like The Black Keys, The Dead Weathers, and Rival Sons. The band has retained the classic original blues lineup—without a bassist—thus paying direct homage to the very roots of the blues.
