International Conference ART BRUT BRNO 2026
This September, Brno once again becomes a centre of raw and authentic art. The sixth edition of the international conference ART BRUT BRNO takes place on 17 and 18 September 2026 under the auspices of the Mayor of Brno, and for the first time strictly divides its programme into two distinct worlds: ART BRUT and ART THERAPY. The central theme of this year's edition is TRANSFORMATION, explored by speakers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and Germeny.
The conference opens on Wednesday 16 September with an accompanying programme at Kino Art — a film screening marking the 125th anniversary of the birth of Jean Dubuffet, the father of the term art brut.
Thursday belongs to art brut: its history, studio practice, galleries, collecting, and international collaboration. The day culminates in a vernissage presenting contemporary work from Brno's art brut studios, featuring a live performance by musician Martin Kyšperský. The evening also includes a piece dedicated to Antonín Krejčíř, founder of Ateliér KreAt, directed by Slovak director Ľubomír Štecko.
Friday is devoted to art therapy — therapeutic and creative approaches, mental health, and the sharing of practice. The programme also includes the course Self-Care Inspired by Collaborative-Dialogical Practice, accredited by the Czech Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
The conference is organised by Ateliér KreAt in cooperation with Ateliér ATRIUM of the Za sklem organisation and Open Art Studio. Capacity is limited — please register in advance at infoatelierkreat@gmail.com.
