Lena Jonsson Meets Gävle Symphony Orchestra 🎻🎶
Conducted by Karl-Johan Ankarblom
Kulturhuset Bollnäs presents an extraordinary collaboration between Gävle Symphony Orchestra and Lena Jonsson, one of Sweden's foremost folk musicians. Lena’s music takes center stage, receiving a fresh interpretation alongside the Gävle Symphony Orchestra, promising a unique experience for the audience.
Lena Jonsson, a prominent fiddle player, is recognized as one of Scandinavia’s most influential contemporary folk musicians. With musical openness and curiosity, she draws inspiration from a diverse range of genres, blending her deep knowledge of traditional Swedish folk music with elements from rock, pop, jazz, American old-time, and bluegrass.
Her music is ever-evolving, always innovative yet deeply respectful of tradition. Lenas compositions evoke a sense of the past while suddenly merging with surprising and inventive new ideas. Expect a brilliant concert marked by heartfelt joy in playing, humor, engagement, and charisma!
Growing up in a folk music environment in Hälsingland, Lena began performing in bands at the age of eleven. She studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and Berklee College of Music. In 2008, she was awarded the title of riksspelman. Lena was nominated for a Grammis for her debut album "Places" (2019), and this year she won the "Artist of the Year" category for her follow-up album "Stories from the Outside" (2021) with Lena Jonsson Trio. In 2021, they also won the Manifest Prize, followed by another victory in the 'Artist of the Year' category at the Folk and World Music Awards, and an additional Grammis nomination in 2024, along with winning the best album at the Folk and World Music Awards 2025.
