Okujou Beat Salon: Beats über den Dächern – mit AMAPOLA & DJ ONIGIRI

The project was born on the rooftop of Klunkerkranich, where the friends first came together for jam sessions. The name also comes from there: Okujou — Japanese for “rooftop terrace.” From these encounters, a monthly concert series soon emerged, in which the band performed regularly with changing guest musicians. Okujou Beat functions as an open, free space and meeting point where both old and new friendships come together, and where everyone is welcome.
As a collective, Okujou Beat invites musicians from different scenes, continuously creating new sonic spaces between club culture and jazz.
Johannes Heger (bass), Izumi Yamamoto (keys & synth), Chikara Aoshima (drums & electronics), Moussa Coulibaly (vocals, balafon, ngoni), and Ulf Lundberg (saxophone & flute) weave together live electronics, traditional griot songs, layered polyrhythms, percussive textures, and funky grooves.
In between, dreamlike synth soundscapes and improvised sonic landscapes unfold — emerging, intensifying, and dissolving back into rhythm. Okujou Beat is film music without making a film. Okujou Beat is hours-long live music sessions that feel like minutes.
At the decks, you can look forward to a premiere with DJ ONIGIRI, opening the afternoon with a relaxing set. Later in the evening, AMAPOLA takes over the decks and guides you through a journey of organic grooves, cosmic sounds, worldwide rhythms, disco, poetry, and lounge. With sets at festivals such as Fusion Festival, Garbicz Festival, and Bucht der Träumer, she has already created sonic spaces that invite dreaming, letting go, and connection.
