Meet with your MP in Parliament to support PauseAI UK's frontier AI legislation campaign
PauseAI UK volunteers will be going to parliament on Tuesday 23 June to speak with their MPs about PauseAI UK's new frontier AI legislation campaign.
Please email your MPs in advance to schedule a meeting with them on the day. If you do not get a reply from them, you can still show up and fill out a "green card" which will be sent to them in the chamber to request an on-the-spot meeting.
You can send your email to request a meeting in 60 seconds using our email builder tool: https://pauseai.uk/campaigns/
Schedule:
You do not need to join for the whole event. Especially if you successfully schedule a meeting with your MP, feel free to just drop in for your meeting.
Getting there:
Enter through the Cromwell Green entrance: https://maps.app.goo.gl/QYwnqb8CSuXE1dpLA.
You do NOT require any registration to enter Parliament through this route. If asked, you can say that you are visiting Parliament for the PauseAI green carding event. You will need to go through airport-style security.
Regulate AI developers now
We’re calling on the UK government to introduce legislation to protect British people from frontier AI risks: from cyber attacks on national infrastructure to bioweapons.
In February of this year, a lone criminal used commercially available AI tools to carry out cyber attacks on nine Mexican government agencies and exfiltrate hundreds of millions of citizen records. The UK’s own AI Security Institute has found that today’s most advanced models can “discover and exploit vulnerabilities autonomously — tasks that would take human professionals days of work”. Britain depends on the same critical infrastructure these tools can now attack.
The UK has no specific legal standards for AI. No regulator oversees frontier AI development. And UK law does not reliably hold developers liable for damage or deaths caused by their models, even when the danger is predictable, preventable and uniquely enabled by AI. In short, UK law neither requires developers to guard against frontier AI risks, nor exposes them to any financial consequence if they fail to do so.
Given the pace at which AI capabilities are advancing, this matter cannot wait. We urge the Prime Minister to introduce legislation to guard against the risks of frontier AI systems.
