Rebecca Journo: Portrait
Portrait by French choreographer Rebecca Journo/La Pieuvre offers an evocative look at our contemporary obsession with the image and fleeting identity. Inspired by the visual art of Cindy Sherman and Francesca Woodman, she creates a series of “living portraits” on stage that balance between the snapshot and the enduring. Four female figures explore their own image before the audience’s gaze, fragmenting the body and disrupting its stability. The soundscape of water, glass, and crystal plays a significant role, shaping both the space and the rhythm of movement. The work engages with illusion, reflection, and constant transformation, creating a precise, sensually dense image of identity as an unstable and elusive construct.
Rebecca Journo is a dancer and choreographer based in Paris. In her work, she explores a choreographic language in which movement materializes the connection between the body, imagination, and sound. After graduating from the Trinity Laban Conservatory in London in 2015, Rebecca performed in various projects in Switzerland, Belgium, and France, for example with Brokentalkers, Konzert Theater Bern, and artists Tabea Martin and Michele Murray. In 2018, she and Véronique Lemonnier founded the ensemble La Pieuvre, which explores the intersections between dance, performance, music, and photography. This is her second visit to Bratislava. In 2021, she presented her solo piece La Ménagère.
This event is intended for audiences aged 10 and older.
