SOUNDBATH w/ Sam Eldred
Sam Eldred has always tinkered with sounds. His first drumsticks were chopsticks raided from his mom’s utensils drawer. He was the kid in class always tapping on his desktop and books. At age 10 he started training in percussion, diving into the plethora of sounds in the school concert, marching, and jazz bands.
Born and raised in rural Wisconsin, he was also fascinated with agriculture, carpentry, and whatever it took to build and live the so-called simple life. His early adulthood was dedicated to learning soil science, composting, organic farming, and permaculture practices. Learning Spanish brought him to Latin America for a few years, where he encountered an inspiring mix of people who helped him deepen his studies in permaculture, music, and community living.
It was in Colombia in 2014 that he first touched a handpan, and it opened up a deep familiarity and a refreshing newness within him. It has become his preferred instrument, and he has now spent over a decade immersed in its sounds. Blending elements of ambient, downtempo, global grooves, and acoustic trance, he is always experimenting and developing his own sound.
As a handpan player and percussionist, Sam weaves all of these experiences into his music. He currently performs, teaches, and leads soundbath meditations and is based in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
BUDGETING w/ Kaiulani Bush
Did you write a short and are now stuck with a series of questions : How much does this cost? How many days will this take? Where do I go from here? Join us for an intro class to Budgeting Your Short! In 2 hours we will go over the basics needed to breakdown, schedule and budget a short film. As a group, we will work with a script and pull out all the elements, create a shooting schedule and talk about key factors in budgeting. This workshop is created for people who are starting at square 1 and are doing it all on their own. We hope to empower you with the tools, information and questions to ask to help you make YOUR project.
Kaiulani has been working in production for the last 10 years. With over 30 projects on her resume, she has experience across various platforms and budgets. Her work on larger studio gigs such as OPPENHEIMER, TENET and IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, have taught her structured formats and rules for successful projects. Looking to step up and get more hands on experience with the numbers, Kaiulani started a production company in 2020, Midnight Lantern Productions, where she has produced and line produced various projects ranging from $5k to $3 million. Now she is looking to share the information she’s learned from the studio and independent world with her film community so more people are empowered to make their own projects by turning pages into numbers.
