Om arrangementet

Building on previous roundtable discussions with stakeholders in the DFI/MDB, energy/battery industry, private sector financier, and UK/EMDE government communities, the Oxford Martin School (OMS) Circular Battery Economies Programme, in partnership with the RMI India Program, aim to convene a select group of decision makers to explore policy options to unlock the Circular Battery Economy.
Circularity is now an economic imperative, with jurisdictions ranging from the EU to India issuing directives and legislation on waste management and sustainable industrial practices. Following the EU CBAM in 2026, the UK plans to introduce a CBAM by early 2027 – roughly coinciding with its Presidency of the G20. This raises an opportunity for alignment and new partnerships between economies on policy solutions that support resource security and extend value retention from new industries, while also addressing issues relating to growth, trade, and fairness.
We will discuss where harmonization on circularity can have the greatest practical impact, and what the most promising entry points are, improving commercial viability, enabling second-life markets, and supporting the safe and efficient movement of batteries and materials across global supply chains.
Participation in this event is by invitation only. If you feel you have missed an invitation, please express your interest to anna.dominey@smithschool.ox.ac.uk and we will review.
Hosts: From the University of Oxford: The Oxford Martin School Programme on Circular Battery Economies; The ZERO Institute and the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. In collaboration with RMI India.
