The sustainability of health care systems is facing significant challenges due to global economic uncertainty, increasing demand from demographic and environmental changes, and the rising costs of innovative therapies. These issues are interconnected, and addressing one can often shift pressure onto another.

This meeting will present research that explores sustainability both individually and at their intersections. Eight selected papers will cover topics such as:

• Hospital-insurer contracting
• Surgical productivity
• Community pharmacy policy
• Artificial intelligence and hospital employment
• Workforce development and skill mix
• Climate adaptation governance
• Environmentally sustainable medicines systems
• Institutional fragility in high-income health systems

Authors hail from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Canada, and the United States. The program will kick off with a keynote address on Thursday afternoon.

In line with EHPG tradition, each paper will be introduced by a discussant rather than its authors, allowing for ample time for author responses and open discussion. The EHPG is a multidisciplinary network of over 400 members committed to fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange through comparative analysis of health system changes in Europe and beyond. The group convenes twice a year.

The meeting will commence at 13:00 on Thursday, 24 September, and conclude at 14:00 on Friday, 25 September. A conference dinner is scheduled for Thursday evening. Places are limited, and registration is required.
