The UPWARD Summer Meetup is a low-pressure social gathering for curious, kind, reflective, and generally interesting humans who’d enjoy meeting others outside the usual networking scripts and social routines.
This isn’t a formal networking event.
It’s not a panel.
There are no name-tag icebreakers, awkward elevator pitches, or expectations that you “optimize” your social interactions.
Instead, think:
• good conversation
• new people
• familiar faces from LinkedIn and beyond
• relaxed summer energy
• curiosity over performance
• resonance over posturing
UPWARD gatherings are built around a pretty simple idea:
Connection becomes much more meaningful when people can arrive as themselves.
So whether you:
work in tech, design, academia, startups, policy, culture, research, community-building, or something difficult to explain at dinner parties,
recently moved to Helsinki,
are rebuilding community,
enjoy thoughtful conversations,
or just want a more human kind of social space…
…you’re very welcome along.
There’s no formal program beyond gathering, chatting, and enjoying the company.
You do not need to “network.”
You do not need to know anyone beforehand.
You do not need to be especially extroverted.
You just need a willingness to show up kindly and engage with others in good faith.

The venue has limited space, so registration helps us keep the atmosphere comfortable and conversational.
Participants buy their own food and beverages; vegan, vegetarian, and halal options are available.
Bring a friend if you’d like.
Or come alone — many people do.
And if all goes well, perhaps you’ll leave with a few new familiar faces in the city.
