Water in the City: A Convening

Hosted at Cambridge Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, this invite-only forum brings together the people quietly shaping how the city understands, manages, and protects its water. We're gathering practitioners from across Bengaluru—companies building solutions, NGOs working on the ground, and university teams pushing the research frontier—to meet, share, and learn from one another.

Bengaluru's water story is not a single story. It is hundreds of efforts unfolding in parallel, often without knowledge of one another. Across the city, people are working on:

Rainwater harvesting and recharge — households, campuses, and communities capturing what falls before it runs off, and rebuilding the groundwater table one structure at a time.

Lake and wetland conservation — citizen groups, trusts, and volunteers reviving the interconnected tank system that once defined the city, fighting encroachment, sewage inflow, and neglect.

Industrial water and wastewater treatment — companies developing at-source cleaning, reuse, and zero-liquid-discharge solutions that keep effluent out of drains and lakes.

Wastewater reuse and decentralised treatment — modular systems that treat and recycle water where it's used, reducing pressure on distant supply and centralised infrastructure.

Academic and scientific research — university teams and institutions studying hydrology, water quality, urban flooding, and the science needed to make policy and practice sound.

Data, monitoring, and verification — those building the maps, sensors, and trust infrastructure that let us know what's actually happening beneath the surface.

Community mobilisation and awareness — NGOs and grassroots networks turning technical problems into shared civic ownership.

Too often, the people working across these areas never find each other. Efforts run in parallel, capabilities go unseen, and knowledge stays siloed. This convening is our attempt to change that: a space to surface who is doing what, to raise the visibility of the teams and their work, and to begin building the connective tissue between them.

This is the first of an ongoing series. We plan to host these gatherings across different locations throughout the city—a recurring forum that travels, grows, and deepens the network of people committed to Bengaluru's water future.

Come to connect. Come to be seen. Come to find your collaborators.
