Wofford’s Blood: The Odyssey of a Cherokee Family

Join us for an insightful presentation by award-winning Georgia author Donna Coffey Little as she shares the true story behind her book, Wofford’s Blood: The Odyssey of a Cherokee Family. This narrative focuses on James Daugherty Wofford, a mixed-race Cherokee boy navigating the tensions between Cherokee and Anglo-American cultures in early 19th-century North Georgia.

Wofford must confront his loyalties amidst the societal challenges of racial slavery and its cultural ramifications.

Dr. Donna Coffey Little is a Professor of English at Reinhardt University and the founder of Reinhardt’s Etowah Valley Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing. Her novel Wofford's Blood, published by Mercer University Press in 2024, has received accolades as the Book of the Year from the Southern Literary Review and Best Historical Novel of 2024 from the Independent Press Association. Additionally, she has authored the poetry chapbook Fire Street and contributed to various esteemed literary journals.
