INTERMISSION
STUDIO CHNG presents INTERMISSION, a solo exhibition by Singaporean Ophthalmologist and Contemporary Artist, Dr. Chng Nai Wee. Opening 3 June 2026 at Waterfall House, 17 Namly Place.
With over three decades of practice, Dr Chng Nai Wee (b.1969, Singapore) ophthalmologist, architect, and contemporary artist—explores the intersections of technology, medicine, and ethics, focusing on unseen structures within and beyond the human body.
A pioneer of multi-channel video installation in Southeast Asia since the late 1980s, he continues to merge digital processes with sculptural and spatial experimentation. In INTERMISSION, he presents works such as the two-part installation MOLECULUX, which transforms molecular geometries into large-scale forms, and MarketForces; Contemporaneous Action in Technology, a video work translating real-time NASDAQ data into visual narratives of regional markets, implicating viewers within systems of economic exchange.
The exhibition also features Like or Not?, a dual sculpture of a durian and housefly that playfully interrogates perceptions of Singaporean identity.
Set within WATERFALL HOUSE, Dr Chng’s 2007 architectural work inspired by the movement of water, where cascading flows, concrete structures, and open spatial transitions create a meditative environment integrated with nature, the exhibition marks a final celebration of the space before its transition to new ownership.
