MAURICE RAVEL Ma Mère l'Oye (My Mother Goose), suite from the ballet
TOSHIO HOSOKAWA Lotus under the Moonlight, hommage à Mozart for piano and orchestra, Czech premiere
ROBERT SCHUMANN Symphony No. 38 “Spring”

Momo Kodama piano
Filharmonie Brno
conductor Ryusuke Numajiri

In 1908 Maurice Ravel (1875–1937) wrote an album of piano four-hand pieces on fairy-tale themes for the children of his friend Cyprian Godebski. His title, Mother
Goose, refers to the classic storybook by Charles Perrault, Les Contes de ma mère l’Oye published in 1697. Three years later the composer arranged the five pieces
into an orchestral suite, to which he later added another two as well as interludes, creating a small ballet.

Toshio Hosokawa (born 1955) is a noted contemporary composer; per meated by Zen Buddhist philosophy and a symbolic interpretation of nature, his works are presented by star performers at prestigious concert stages and festivals.

Looking at the oeuvre of Robert Schumann (1810–1856), one cannot fail to notice his fascination with different genres in his successive creative periods. The first decade of Schumann’s oeuvre was full of piano pieces, 1840 was the year of song cycles and the following year, when Schumann was at the peak of his creative powers, he gravitated towards symphonic music.

The discussion with the dramaturge and his guests will take place at 6 pm in the director's lounge. Reservations are required at besedy@filharmonie-brno.cz by 12 noon on Wednesday of the week of the concert.
