An interdisciplinary salon at Apollo Innovation Commons

In ancient Athens, the agora was not just a marketplace; it was where the city’s life converged: merchants, philosophers, citizens, and strangers shared ideas and debated. Geometry could lead to ethics, and trade to justice. This gathering was effective because it blurred the lines between disciplines.

Today, our institutions have become specialized and isolated. Biologists seldom converse with ethicists, technologists with artists; genuine exchanges are rare. Despite deepening expertise, the ties between fields are weakening. However, the most pressing questions—responsible building, care for one another, governance of creations—lie precisely in the interdisciplinary spaces that our silos often ignore.

The Agora Series seeks to reconstruct this common ground. Each event gathers diverse voices from technology, sciences, arts, philosophy, and civic practice, encouraging collaborative thinking. We believe that significant insights often emerge where disciplines intersect, and dismantling silos involves restoring real conversations.

But conversations are just the start. Ideas generated at the Agora flow directly into the UnCommon Ground Hackathon, where dialogue transforms into tangible solutions. Teams from various fields collaborate to prototype and build responses to issues raised during discussions. Join us as we explore thinking and building together. The next UnCommon Ground Hackathon is scheduled for August 15.
