The young Czech wind ensemble Alinde Quintet, which last year won one of the most prestigious international music competitions, the ARD in Munich, will offer a varied program consisting of works by Czech and Nordic composers.

In his day, Rejcha was one of the most important musical figures in Europe. His extraordinary melodic musical invention and excellent sense of the sound of wind instruments are evident in the first of his six wind quintets, Op. 100, published in Paris in 1820.

Haas's Wind Quintet, Op. 10, from 1928–1929 uniquely blends the conciseness and pithiness of Janáček's musical language with neoclassical musical playfulness, humor, and technical brilliance.

The meditative musical language of contemporary Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks enjoys wide international attention today. The 1982 composition Music for a Deceased Friend is an epitaph written in honor of Vasks' friend, the tragically deceased bassoonist Jana Barinská. Here, the composer effectively combines his contemporary musical language with musical elements from ancient Lithuanian funeral rituals.

Thanks to his studies with Albert Roussel, the French esprit found its way into the music of Danish composer Jørgen Jersild. A touch of "sweet France" can also be traced in his 1947 Serenade "Playing in the Forest".
