Imagine being a child from New York City embarking on a train ride, unaware of the adventures ahead. From 1854 to 1929, a network of orphan trains relocated around 300,000 children from East Coast orphanages to at least 39 states, with Iowa being one of the top destinations. Approximately 8,000 to 10,000 of these children started anew in Iowa, welcomed by families in over 316 towns.
