Ancestral Modernism: Deep Listening 🎧
Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of deep listening, where sound is drawn from the hidden qualities of matter. The internationally acclaimed percussionist and improvisor Lê Quan Ninh and the pitophonist Tony Di Napoli will unveil the extraordinary sonic potential found within the simplest materials.
15:00–15:40 · Solo Concert by Lê Quan Ninh (FR) 🎵
Lê Quan Ninh is renowned for his unique presence, voice, and exceptional improvisational skills. In this intimate solo performance, he transforms a single drum into a vast sonic landscape using subtle gestures, objects, silence, and resonance. Rather than presenting rhythm traditionally, this concert invites listeners into an expanded experience of sound, where vibration, texture, and attentive listening become the music itself.
Limited to 40 spaces for this section!
16:00–17:30 · Stone Vibrations Workshop with Tony Di Napoli (FR) 🪨
Explore lithophones—musical instruments made of stone that have existed across cultures from prehistoric times to the present, made from sedimentary, metamorphic, and volcanic rocks.
In this participatory workshop, Tony Di Napoli will introduce the limestone lithophones he creates, sharing their making, tuning, and diverse modes of vibration. Through hands-on exploration and guided listening, participants will discover how stone can evolve into a living musical instrument and experience sound as both an acoustic and physical phenomenon.
The workshop is open to everyone—no musical experience is required! 🌟
Join us for either the concert, the workshop, or immerse yourself in the full afternoon. Whether you’re listening deeply or making sound yourself, this is your invitation to slow down, tune in, and explore the extraordinary possibilities contained in the simplest materials.
