
BMA Violet Hour: The Evening Ritual
Join us for a special BMA Violet Hour edition of The Evening Ritual at the BMA! This unique experience invites you to disconnect from the digital world, unwind, and immerse yourself in music surrounded by the stunning BMA Sculpture Gardens. 🌿✨
The evening kicks off with a curated soundtrack inspired by a featured album, allowing guests to find their perfect spot and mingle. As the night unfolds, our host Basement Selector will provide a brief insight into the Ritual, explaining the practice of active listening and sharing the background and history of the featured artist and album.
🎧 The album is presented and played on vinyl, uninterrupted, in high-fidelity sound. Guests are encouraged to listen mindfully in community as the record spins. After the listening session, you’ll have a chance to reflect, discuss, and share stories about your experience.
🪑 What to Bring: Feel free to bring your own blanket or cushion for sitting on the grass. Limited chairs, stools, and yoga mats will be available courtesy of BMA.

About The Evening Ritual: This is a space dedicated to celebrating and sharing groundbreaking albums through intentional, active listening sessions. Now in its second year, the Evening Ritual has hosted over 35 sessions in Baltimore, creating opportunities for guests to connect with music in a profound way.
Curated by Basement Selector, this event explores albums primarily from the 60s to the early 2000s, focusing on R&B, Jazz, Funk, and Neo-Soul on vinyl. Past featured albums include works by the likes of Alice Coltrane, Maxwell, D'Angelo, and Anita Baker. Experience the joy of music in a shared, physical setting once more! 🎵✨
