Founded in 1980 at the Music School Bremen, JSO Bremen stands out as the only full Youth Orchestra in the city, currently featuring about 80 young musicians aged 13 to 23. Each year, they embark on a rich musical journey, preparing a symphony, an overture, and a solo concerto by an orchestra member. This isn't just about making music—it's also a fantastic opportunity for friendships and collaboration beyond school!
Their dedication shines through in annual highlights such as concerts at Bremen’s iconic concert hall, Die Glocke, and an open-air spectacle, Musik und Licht am Hollersee, welcoming around 20,000 visitors. Not to mention, their International Youth Symphony Orchestra Bremen (IYSO) project brings together 120 musicians from 15 countries, showcasing an incredible blend of diverse talents.
Additionally, the orchestra engages in joint projects with esteemed institutions like the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie. One of the most thrilling aspects is their yearly concert tour, spanning multiple countries including France, Italy, Spain, and more.
