Building Powerful CLIs with Go

CLIs with Go and 12-Factor App Methodology 🚀

Imagine the hassle of needing to import entire packages just to perform basic Kubernetes operations. Or struggling with the poorly documented Rclone library just to copy a file to an S3 bucket. Thankfully, this isn't the case for many of us, thanks to powerful CLI tools that handle the heavy lifting. However, with increased abstraction comes increased complexity.

But don’t worry! Complexity can be manageable with the right approach. For over 14 years, developers and ops teams have turned to the 12-Factor App methodology to tackle this challenge. Mastering the basics is crucial, and the 12-Factor App principles are fundamental to today’s “cloud-native” paradigms.

What Are We Doing? 🔧

Join us and our special guest, Ruckus Voxi, Senior Developer Advocate at Akamai, for a hands-on session focused on building CLIs in Go. We’ll use popular libraries like Cobra and Viper, utilized in many well-known open-source projects including Hugo, GitHub CLI, Docker, and Kubernetes.

What You Will Need

• A computer to follow along 💻
• Go runtime pre-installed (we're happy to help set this up!)
• A text editor of your choice 🖊️
• Basic coding knowledge or a willingness to learn 📚
• Curiosity is super important! 🤔

What You Don't Need

• No prior experience with Go or building CLI tools is required.
