Concerts in the Thaulow exhibition
Join us for a series of concerts every Wednesday and Friday at 16:00 in Permanenten, from 10 June to 21 August!
At the end of the 19th century, a new musical direction emerged, focusing on sound itself rather than clear forms and dramatic developments typical of Romantic music. This music emphasizes tone color, atmosphere, and fleeting impressions, evoking sensations rather than depicting scenes.
Notably associated with French composer Claude Debussy, this style employs whole-tone scales, church modes, and unconventional harmonies, creating a sensuous and ambiguous character. Norwegian composers like Edvard Grieg and Agathe Backer Grøndahl also embraced this approach, with later influences seen in the works of Alf Hurum, Geirr Tveitt, Pauline Hall, and David Monrad Johansen.
Each concert lasts 30 minutes and features the pianist of the week throughout the summer season. Here’s the lineup:
