Consent as a Practice of Care - Workshop
Door opens from 17:30 to 17:50. Please arrive on time. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to open the door after the event begins. This helps ensure everyone receives the introduction and is informed of the group agreements.__________In this workshop we take a deeper dive into consent, going beyond the basics of "yes" and "no" and really exploring what it means to give true, informed, and honest consent. This event is for those who want to use consent as a way to show care, connect, and build genuine trust with others. The concept of consent is not new, but while most people know they are supposed to ask for it, we are rarely taught the nuances of how it actually shows up or when it’s needed.Consent goes beyond asking for permission. Sometimes it’s hard to say no, even when you want to. Sometimes the body gives one answer while words give another. Experiences don’t happen in isolation, and understanding the context that brings people together helps us better understand what consent looks like in the moment.By deepening this awareness, we can better understand each other and show care through how we ask, listen, and respond. We will also explore practical ways to communicate consent and tune into non-verbal cues. There is much more to it than simply asking “do I have your consent to…”, and this workshop offers tools and language you can adapt to your own way of relating. This 3 hour workshop will have a presentation, interactive exercises and space to discuss and share experiences. Topics of focus include:- When consent is needed- Body language and consent- What can impact one's ability to give consent- Alternative ways to ask for consent- Navigating a "no" when asking for consentWe will discuss consent in one-on-one encounters, but also touch on consent in non-monogamous pairing and sek.s-positive spaces, so all are welcome, regardless of their relationship structure.HostImogen is a trained in.ti.macy coordinator for film and TV, working with consent, safety, and in.ti.mate choreography.Curious about relationships and human connection, she brings a grounded, multifaceted perspective shaped by her lived experience as non-monogamous, queer, sek.s-positive, and k1nky.275 kr
